Xiaomi’s Strategic Leap into the Electric Vehicle Market: A Potential Top Contender by 2040
Xiaomi’s Ambitious Declaration in the EV Sector
Last week in Beijing, Lei Jun, the founder and CEO of Xiaomi Technology, announced an ambitious goal to propel his company into the top five global automobile manufacturers within the next 15 to 20 years. At the ‘Xiaomi EV Technology Launch’ held in December 2023, Xiaomi unveiled its core technologies in electric vehicles (EVs) for the first time, introducing the mid-to-large sedan “SU7” to the global market.
Bridging Smart Technology with Electric Vehicles
Xiaomi, traditionally known for its smartphones, is integrating its proprietary operating system, Hyper OS, into the SU7, enabling compatibility and connectivity with its smartphones. This move represents Xiaomi’s strategy of “smartphonization” of electric cars, adapting smart technology seamlessly into the automotive sector. Lei Jun emphasized the SU7’s performance by comparing it with high-performance electric vehicles like Tesla’s Model S and Porsche’s Taycan, claiming that the SU7 matches or even exceeds these models in various performance metrics.
