In the traditional world of music, one had to undergo extensive training by record companies before they could even dream of performing on a stage. Today, however, the rise of streaming platforms has dramatically reshaped the music industry. TuneCore, an American online music distribution platform, is at the forefront of this change.

TuneCore allows independent musicians to register their music for just 1,551 yen, making it available in 185 countries on more than 55 music platforms. This means that artists can gain international recognition without necessarily being signed by a record company.

On June 9, 2023, an event was held at the Fuji Television Coast Photography Studio in Tokyo’s Odaiba to commemorate the 10th anniversary of TuneCore’s debut in Japan. The grand prize winner, Tani Yuuki, credited TuneCore for opening doors for him when he was unknown and striving in his music career. Tani began his musical journey on social media platforms in 2015, and by 2020, through TuneCore’s services, he began publishing music on platforms like TikTok. His song “W/X/Y” hit the top spots on various streaming platforms after its release, earning him a Newcomer Award at the 2022 Music Awards.
