As Japan grapples with an aging population and a rising number of single-person households, the coin laundry industry is undergoing a significant transformation. No longer limited to mundane, coin-operated machines, self-service laundromats are evolving into smart, multi-functional spaces. A prime example of this shift is “wash-plus,” a laundromat in Urayasu, Chiba Prefecture, that is pioneering digital transformation and reshaping the future of the industry.

By integrating AI-driven “Dynamic Pricing” in January 2022, wash-plus addresses traditional coin laundry challenges such as fluctuating demand and underutilized machines during off-peak hours. This innovative pricing system not only enhances operational efficiency but also offers customers a more flexible and cost-effective laundry experience.

From Real Estate to Coin Laundry Innovation

Founded in 2013, wash-plus initially operated as a real estate company in Chiba. Coin laundry was merely a side business. However, with increasing demand and successful expansion, the company now operates 20 directly owned stores and 21 franchises across Japan.
