Since its inception, Tomica has sold over 1 billion units worldwide, with one car sold every 1.8 seconds. It has become a cultural icon in Japan and a classic in the global toy market. Tomica was born out of the ambition of the Japanese toy company Tomy. The founder, Yasuo Tomiyama, envisioned creating high-quality toys that could turn children’s dreams into reality. During the mid-20th century, Japan’s toy market was dominated by Western brands, and imported toy cars were especially popular. Recognizing the need for a domestic brand, Tomiyama set out to develop a Japanese miniature car line that would not only compete with global brands but also instill national pride.
