In Fukuoka Prefecture’s Ukiha City, a unique company called “Ukiha no Takara” (Treasures of Ukiha) has emerged, transforming the lives of many elderly individuals. Remarkably, this company is staffed almost entirely by grandmothers over the age of 75. They bring vitality and creativity to the company, which has launched popular brands and platforms such as “Grandma News,” the food brand “Grandma’s Meals,” and a diverse YouTube channel “Yudobaba,” featuring everything from whispering secrets to dancing and cooking. Founded in 2019 by Mitsuru Okuma, who was just 39 years old at the time, this enterprise is a testament to the power of community and the potential for purposeful living at any age.

The Birth of an Idea

Mitsuru Okuma’s journey began in Ukiha City, where he was born and raised. After a motorcycle accident left him hospitalized for four years, he formed deep connections with the elderly patients around him.
