Dear Ms. Liu,
Thank you very much for sharing your family story. In our grandparents' generation, such stories always seem to involve a deep emotional chord that is not easily broken.
My family is composed of Japanese and Taiwanese people. After World War II, the Japanese who had ruled Taiwan had to leave. My grandmother was a beautiful and kind Japanese woman who was forced to make a choice at that time: to leave the family she had formed in Taiwan or to hide her identity and secretly stay. She chose the latter, and I am very grateful that she did not leave Taiwan, so that I could develop a strong emotional bond with her.
Thank you for your story.
